How to Deal With Clutter During A Move
When you are moving from one place to another, old objects, clothes, utensils, and memorabilia seem to come out of the walls. More often than not, moving is a great excuse to get rid of unwanted clutter – but how to do it responsibly? The world is full of enough landfills filled with clutter other people were too irresponsible to deal with properly. When you are trying to cut down on the physical possessions of yours that you have to move from one place to the other, there are some great, fiscally and ecologically friendly ways to do so. Here are some examples of a few:
Selling Unwanted Items
You might be surprised at the things people will buy – something you think is worthless might be of great value to somebody else. Online sites like Craigslist, Kijiji, or eBay are great ways to both find out how much one of your unwanted possessions might be worth, and to actually sell it once you have picked out a reasonable price – and remember to be reasonable! You are trying to liberate yourself from this stuff after all, so do not expect a king’s ransom for something you would barely crack your wallet for.
You can also have a garage sale when the weather is nice. Having friends and neighbours stop by and pick up something of yours for a couple dollars is a great way to say goodbye to the neighbourhood.
Clothes, kitchen utensils toys – these things are all worthy of reuse and recycling. Even if you do not personally know a family who could use your unwanted items, a thrift store is a great way to ensure your unwanted stuff finds a family that can.
Put Things in Storage
We all have keepsakes that we can’t bear to part with, and it’s okay to want to keep these things. Find an affordable place to keep things in storage and you can find a new place for them among your other possessions in your new home
Be responsible with your clutter and save the stress on the environment. Get your unwanted stuff to people who want it and make your move easier on yourself.
